SANCA Witbank would like to thank Eyethu Coal for identifying and sponsoring young people of eMalahleni municipality to attend a five-day programme on peer counselling.

This is a programme where young people are capacitated with knowledge and skills to help people with substance abuse. Based on SANCA Witbank stats on substance abuse it has become clear that eMalahleni has become the second highest city in South Africa on substance abuse therefore, the Masakhane youth of eMalahleni are now ambassadors of SANCA Witbank in the fight against substance abuse.

While on the programme they received training on substances, use, abuse and dependence; facilitation skills and public speaking; prevention and awareness campaign schools for the children and youth, churches and public and private sectors; how to identify people that are using substance abuse; how to promote healthy and positive lifestyle among young people etc and how to initiate substance abuse programme in the community of eMalahleni that are aimed at promoting drug free communities.

“SANCA Witbank is of the opinion that the skills and knowledge that these young people have gained will make a difference in the fight of substance abuse in eMalahleni,” said Zodwa Mzondo, director SANCA Witbank.
