A municipal worker discovered a thief as he was trying to steal an air conditioning unit, but his plan was foiled when the police swiftly arrested him.
According to reports, the municipal employee was apparently in the bathroom of the municipal swimming pool in Hoffmeyer Street when he heard a sound coming from the roof. At first he thought it was pigeons, but as the noise grew louder the witness went to investigate.
When he went outside, he saw a man allegedly trying to remove the air conditioning unit with a pair of pliers.
When the suspect apparently saw that he was found out, he ran for it. As he tried to escape, municipal security guards quickly caught up with him and apprehended him. They phoned the police to arrest him.
The accused, Sfiso Sindane, appeared in court on October 13 and was granted bail. He is set to appear in court again on October 20.
