Police made two arrests, catching unwary users off guard.
Both arrests took place on February 3 in the Central Business District.
The first took place at about 13:50, police were patrolling the area when they saw a man acting suspiciously; they approached him and searched him. The search revealed that he was hiding suspected dagga to the value of R80 in his socks, he was arrested.
The same police conducted another arrest at about 15:00 they were still out on patrol in the CBD when they came across a man sitting alongside the road.
The police requested to search the man and found in his possession at least eight balls of suspected dagga worth R80, he too was placed under arrest.
Just last week police arrested five suspects in possession of various narcotics.
“The possession of dagga cases is on the increase. Witbank Police are warning the public that the possession, cultivation and selling of dagga is illegal,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police communications.
Capt Hall further added that children and adults who are found in possession of dagga plants, or dagga seeds will face the full extent of the law.
