Caught off guard by robber

A security guard at a local shopping Centre in Die Heuwel was robbed of his radio while patrolling the undercover parking area.

Apparently on March 13 at about 09:30 it was reported that while the security guard was on duty near the public toilets of the shopping centre in the undercover parking two unknown suspects jumped the guard who was caught by surprise. The robbers who were armed with a gun threatened the victim.

They apparently only took the victim’s two-way communication radio and nothing else however these radios are forth a few thousand rand. Sgt David Ratau from the Witbank SAPS said that these radios’s can be retuned by someone who knows what they are doing for other nefarious purposes.

Many Community Policing Forum members have their own radios to communicate within their sectors. The SAPS urges owners to keep their radios safe and report it immediately if it does get stolen. Each radio is registered and action can be taken if one of them should fall into the wrong hands.
