“They always try to break into the shop, so I have to take everything with me… so they don’t have a lot to take.”
More business burglaries and robberies were reported at the Witbank Police Station during the past week – most reports were coming from small businesses in the Clarinet area.
The business owner that wishes to stay anonymous told how he became the victim of an armed robbery inside his shop at Klarinet.
On Wednesday March 23, he closed his store around 19:30 for the day and everything was in order.
When he returned to his store the next day, March 24 he walked into a robbery taking place. An unknown man came up to him and pointed a firearm at him, demanding him to give the location of the safe.
While the owner of the store told the robber that he does not have a safe another unknown man was busy taking goods from the store.
“They took the little I had left in my store and fled.”
The Witbank SAPS was called to the scene where they did the relevant procedures to investigate the case further.
The spokesperson of Witbank SAPS, Eddie Hall warned business owners to take extra care and to take heed of suspicious vehicles near their stores.
“Often one would find suspects watching the store to pick up patterns of activity to wait for an opportunity to strike and surprise unsuspecting business owners or employers,” Hall concluded.
