Mathebula has an ID document problem
He found that he is sharing his Id number with someone else..

Mr Thabo Windy Mathebula (68), started having ID problems when he wanted to apply for a personal loan at one of the banks.
With all the necessary documents filled in, he found that he is sharing his Id number with someone else. This is not a unique case in the country as a lot of people have found out that they have similar problems. One of the daily newspapers deals with these issues on ID problems on a weekly basis.
“I went to the Department of Home Affairs and they confirmed my predicament and advised me to apply for a new one and wait for eight weeks, for it to be processed. I feel that they should have investigated my case to find out how come two people can have the same ID number?” asked Mathebula.

Mathebula also feels that the department is not doing enough to sort out ID problems in the country. Mathebula feels that applying for a new ID will affect him personally as he now has to change a lot of things.
“My life revolves around my ID number, my children’s birth certificate has my ID number and a lot of other things. The department must do their investigating to find out who applied first for that number. They have the means to do that. Changing my ID number is like changing my life to be a new person,” added Mathebula.
