Burglars and robbers made fast-food franchise their target this past week.
On Thursday, April 7 a break-in was reported at the KFC Klipfontein branch, after the suspect allegedly broke through the front door just after midnight.
The suspect forgot to read the 24 hour sign on his way in and was noticed by the drive thru cashier.
The cashier then pushed the panic button and in moments the
CPF (Community Policing Forum) members of the sector along with security arrived on the scene.
“This thug got away with nothing just because he did not read the signs,” said Ms Madelon Troskie a member of the CPF, in a moment of humour.
In another robbery that took place just a week after the first attempt but this cashier was not as lucky as the one above.
On Thursday, April 14 the KFC at the Old Middelburg Road (R555) was robbed and the cashier was threatened with a firearm.
“Two unknown men came into the franchise and started asking the price of a Streetwise Two and as I gave them the price they said they don’t have enough money and started to argue with me about the price,” said Ms Senzeni Ngubane, the cashier on duty at that time.
After a few minutes she said that the two men walked out of the fast food restaurant and suddenly two other ‘customers’ that was in the shop pulled out a firearm a demanded all the cash.
“They told me to go to the storeroom and locked me up,” said Senzeni.
There have been no arrests yet but the Witbank SAPS are investigating the case as well as several other cases of business burglaries reported this month.
Police warns that business owners must take extra precaution.
