Ipid investigates racist comments

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) and the Human Rights Commission is investigating the policeman who claims to ‘suffocate racists’ and take dockets home.

“The preliminary investigations indicate the police official alleges that he has left his cell phone with his brother who is alleged to be the one responsible for those utterances,” said Robbie Raburabu Acting National Spokesperson for Ipid.

The Democratic Alliance pointed out that they are appalled by the comments by Const Elvis Thabiso Sithole.
Mr James Masango, DA Leader in the Provincial Legislature, said

“We condemn this act of racism. This is not in line with our constitution.”

He said the fact that Brig Delisiwe Goodness Motha did not take harsher action against Const Sithole leaves much to debate over.

Const Sithole only got a slap on his wrist from his station commander Brig Delisiwe Goodness Motha who was satisfied with his explanation that his brother is the one who posted the comments on social media.
The post that lifted eyebrows read,

“I normally suffocate a bit with a refuse bag this kind of racists before booking them in the holding cells, bcoz it doesn’t leave any marks. They just become red and after doing the paperwork I lock them up and take the docket home so that no one can release them until they meet with the Honourable Magistrate in court the next Court date.”

This was posted on a radio station’s social media site after they shared a video of a motorist who was arrested after allegedly assaulting a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer and calling him the ‘k-word’.
