Attacker expected to plea in Colenso Magistrates Court

The suspect recently appeared before Colenso Magistrate Court on May 12 facing two charges. One of using a vehicle without its owner’s consent, the other was a charge of escaping police custody.

The case was postponed for trial to June 1. The attacker’s grandparents are expected to be called in as witnesses in the use of vehicle without consent case and Winterton Police are expected to testify as witnesses regarding his case of escaping police custody.

In his hearing on May 18 at Witbank Magistrates Court, he was remanded again in custody after appearing for assault and robbery charges, his case was postponed to May 27, he was then taken back to Winterton where is kept under police custody.

The accused is expected to plead guilty to his charges in Colenso Magistrate Court come June 1.
Van Zyl was allegedly assaulted and his business robbed on the night of April 17 as he locked up his bar, Cheekies.

His attacker was caught and detained by the Community Policing Forum members and the barkeep of Cheekies the following evening.
