Several victims were threatened with their lives as armed gunmen robbed them of their valuables.

The violent crimes occurred mainly between May 27 and May 29. An incident was reported at about 6:30 as the sun was rising. A truck driver was robbed yet again near the N4 toll gate. A truck driver was forced off the road by an unknown vehicle. As soon as the truck stopped two armed men jumped out and held the driver up. They stole all of his personal belongings, but apparently left him with his truck before escaping.

Another incident occurred the next day at about 01:30 before dawn. A security guard was patrolling the central business district (CBD) apparently responding to an alarm that went off.

After investigating the premises he returned to his patrol vehicle where he was ambushed by two armed robbers. They forced him to the ground and while holding him at gunpoint, took his firearm from him and then ran away. They also took the car keys presumably to prevent him from giving chase after they fled on foot.

An armed robbery was reported to the Witbank SAPS where three suspects held workers at gunpoint at a shop in Gordon Road. The armed robbers apparently tied the employees up with cable ties and attempted to cut through a Standard bank ATM with a blowtorch. They apparently did not succeed however they did make off with cell phones and other valuables stolen from the victims.
