A business in the semi industrial area in Klipfontein was burgled last week. The managers at the business became concerned when the police had still not attended the crime scene by the afternoon of the next day.
The incident took place on May 19 when the burglar apparently climbed onto the roof of a carport and then broke the glass window of a second floor office. A wall mounted TV was missing when the manager discovered the break in early the next morning. They apparently reported the incident to the Witbank SAPS and they were told that they should leave the scene as is until finger prints have been taken.
By the late afternoon when the police still did not attend the scene they became concerned about leaving the broken window wide open over night.

Capt Eddie Hall said that a unit did go out to the scene before the end of the day however he explains that they have to priorities reports. The break-ins that were reported the previous night were handled first.
Forensic officials can only attend a scene during the day which is a national policy. Therefore apparently on that particular day their on duty officers handled many crime scene reports from the previous night. They also prioritise crimes in progress or accidents.
“A unit was actually on their way to the scene at one stage when they received a crime in progress report and had to turn around,” mentioned Capt Hall.
