The assault that allegedly took place in Kriel Police Station in February has not been swept under the rug or forgotten by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
Mr Robbie Raburabu, acting national spokesperson for IPID said the matter is still under investigation.
“There are several crucial evidential technical documents including a medical report which are still outstanding before the matter could be send for a decision by the prosecutors,” he said.
The investigation into the alleged assault comes from an incident in February 6 where Mr Lourens Erasmus was allegedly assaulted by policemen in the police station.
Erasmus recalled the incident that turned into a nightmare when he thought he was doing the right thing.
“I woke up at around 03:00 and after I went to the bathroom I stood outside to have a cigarette when I saw a suspicious looking silver Mazda. I asked what they were doing here so early in the morning, then they just drove off,” Erasmus said.
A clear handprint is visible on Mr Lourens Erasmus’ back.
He dialled 112 to inform the police, gave his address and was transferred to Kriel SAPS.
After allegedly trying to get hold of the police several times a police van stopped in front of his house. Erasmus said the police asked him to accompany them to the police station.
“All seemed fine, but the moment they closed the security door, leading into the police station, I knew something is horribly wrong.”
Lourens said the policemen accused him of being a journalist and allegedly hit and kicked him and also stood on his throat.
