Two hijackings on the same day

Hijackings are on a rise, always implement as much safety precautions as possible.

Two hijacking took place on the same morning in different parts of eMalahleni. The first was in Jellico Street near the central business district (CBD).

At about 00:05 on August 14 a driver stopped at a red light when he was suddenly approached by three men. One of the suspects that came to the driver’s side had a gun trained on the victim while the other two men opened the passenger doors and got in.

They apparently threatened him at gunpoint to hand over his money but threw him out onto the road when he told his aggressors that he did not have any cash on hand. They were last seen driving off down Mandela Road.

A case of hijacking has been reported for a Maroon Toyota Conquest.

Capt Eddie Hall a spokesperson for the SAPS said,

“The two hijackings this week happened at night. The community should keep general safety in mind such as keeping their doors locked.”

He explains that if one does get into a hijacking situation try and get as much information as possible on the suspect such language used, clothes, any distinguishing features for the police to build an identity profile. If there is more than one suspect, focus on a specific one to get as much detail as possible.

“Many times hijacked vehicles are used in other crimes. That is why it is important to phone the police as soon as possible especially if the vehicle has anti-hijacking systems in place so that the vehicle can be recovered before it is possibly used in another crime,”

added Capt Hall on the matter.

Another hijacking took place in Klipfontein later that day when two armed robbers took a victim’s car keys outside a shop and stole his car from the parking lot.

It is suspected that this incident was linked to an armed robbery in the area which happened several minutes before this hijacking incident. In both cases hijacking report was opened by the Witbank SAPS. This victim could not be reached for comment.
