A 27-year-old man appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court earlier this week after he allegedly killed and buried his mother in a shallow grave.

Information at police disposal reveals that the suspect, Sandile Nhlapho attacked and killed his 65-year-old mother, Florah Masuku at their home at Hlalanikahle Extension 3 in Vosman. He then buried her body in a shallow grave inside a rondavel which is in their yard.

It all emerged after he allegedly confessed his evil deeds on Sunday, September 18, to a member of the local Community Police Forum (CPF) who in turn alerted the police.

A probe was immediately instituted and all role-players were summoned to the scene, including forensic experts. They then dug in the rondavel, retrieved the body and as a result the suspect was then nabbed and charged with murder.

Sister to the deceased Ms Busisiwe Masuku said the family is devastated and shocked about what happened. “It is very sad what happened to my sister and we still have a lot of unanswered questions of what really happened leading to her death,” stated Ms Masuku

The family were still busy with funeral arrangements on Wednesday, September 21.

After appearing in court on Wednesday, September 21, Nhlapho has been remanded in custody and will appear again on Tuesday, September 27, pending a formal bail application.
