Community members take a stand against crime

Following Titan and other’s dogs being poisoned three weeks ago, the community of Extension 1 in Die Heuwel took it upon themselves to patrol the area.

The patrols take place daily in the early hours of the morning which is where most house break-ins happen. On Monday, September 26 some community members were at Cleopatra Street when they spotted a white Citi Golf. The car had four occupants inside who are suspected to be the people that poison dogs and are involved in house burglary cases. A total of five dogs have been poisoned recently and the community members thought enough was enough. If they had to deprive themselves from sleep to watch the neighbourhood that would be the risk they are willing to take.

Damian and Teagan Mckay are happy to see Titan doing well after being poisoned. This happened at Cleopatara Street, Die Heuwel on September 13.

On Monday morning they had their first drive around the block and they did not notice anything, when they drove for the second time they spotted the stationery vehicle up the road.

When the suspects were approached they drove off.

“After the vehicle sped off, we then followed them,” said Michael Mckay, one of the residents.

They started driving faster and went through all the red robot lights. They even went past the police station. During the chase Mckay alleged that they tried phoning the police who did not answer.

Luckily they managed to take down the vehicle registration which is DS 78 VK GP.

“We could not chase them any further as we were not sure if they were armed or not. It is alleged that the same vehicle was spotted at Duvha Park attempting to break-in a house on the evening of September 29 but left empty handed.”

He requests that should you spot the car to please report it immediately to the police as they are up to no good.

“I have informed the police but it seems the number plates have been copied and don’t belong to the car in question. We live in this area and the people that are affected by this crime are the residents, hence we decided as a community to take a stand and keep our neighbourhood safe.”

Spokesperson of the police, Capt Eddie Hall said they do not know about the vehicle but have given a lookout.
