Lights on, thieves take their chance

"They also tied her hands and feet and closed her with a duvet"

A nanny had a horrific experience when she was held by two men. On Wednesday, 5 October around 11:00, a grey bakkie pulled up on the driveway, hooting for the attention of the nanny.

“We were not home, and the nanny told us that when she heard the hooter, she checked from the kitchen window, as you can see the main gate. She saw the vehicle and went outside, to find out what they wanted. They told her that they were there to check the lights of the house, and from the five men in the vehicle, two got out and went inside the house with her. They also told her to switch the lights on, for them to check if everything was in working condition. As she made her way through the house, our bedroom was the last one and that was where they told her to get onto the bed and keep quiet. They also tied her hands and feet and closed her with a duvet,” said the home owner.

She further said that they stole televisions, a laptop and camera and from the nanny’s bedroom, a duvet and jewellery.

“I think they took the duvet to cover the things they stole. They then left and after my nanny heard that it was quiet, she went outside the house and screamed for help. Another lady that lives down the road heard her cries and phoned us, where we were told what happened. We phoned the police and fingerprints were taken, but we have heard nothing more from the police,” she concluded.

Fortunately no one was injured during the incident.
