Nehawu seeing red over demands
“We have shutdown the two offices in the Witbank District and Sub District, and the strike will continue,”

“Our demands must be met and the minister must respond to our demands,” were the cries of the strikers in front of the Piet Koornhof building.
On Monday March 13 members of the National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) began striking in the social development sector here in eMalahleni.
Union members took to the streets adorned in their red union shirts, armed with signage of their demands – demands which they said must be met by the Minister of Social Developement.

Members of the social development sector strike in front of the Piet Koornhof building as part of the National Health Education and Allied Workers Union national strike.
Their demands included danger allowance, protection for professional council, tools for their trade, and salary entry levels increases.
“We have shutdown the two offices in the Witbank District and Sub District, and the strike will continue,” said one of the strikers.
This forms part of the national strike whereby over 6 000 Nehawu workers in the Department of Social Development are going on strike.
The strike continued throughout last week and is expected to continue into this week as no answer has been given to their demands at time of print.
