Members of the public shot for no reason

Last week the situation in the Central Business District (CBD) was very volatile and police were on high alert armed with rubber bullet guns.

On Thursday, June 22 at 17:00 Mr Thomas Sikome finished work in Klipfontien and made his way to fetch his friend Mr Effort Maphanga so that they could walk home together.

“We both finished work at 17:00 and it normally takes us 30 minutes from Klipfontien to the CBD,” said Sikome.


Mr Thomas Sikome that was allegedly shot by the police on Thursday, June 22 as he made his way home.

As they got closer to the CBD they noticed a lot of police vehicles and they continued walking.

“Out of nowhere, as we were walking, a mini bus full of armed policemen jumped out and started shooting at us. And the police just kept on shouting run, run,” said a traumatised Sikome.
