Community structures protest at Kromdraai Mine

Police kept a watchful eye during the protest.

Some community structures protested at Kromdraai Mine which is under Anglo American and handed over a memorandum.

The structures protested on Tuesday, August 15 and they wanted to meet with the Stakeholders Forum within seven day, they also said the agreement of Emalahleni Committees and Structures operation must not limit them in all Anglo operations.

They also demanded the employment of 200 people with immediate effect. They want the mine to adopt 20 companies from them and offer them business opportunities.

They wanted the mine to employ six liaising officers with immediate effect as well. They also demanded that rehabilitation must be done by the locals and that the memorandum addresses all Anglo operations.

After a meeting was held with the mine management the parties agreed to meet again on Wednesday next week to deliberate on the raised issues.

“Please we want to let you know that this will be the last time that we meet with mine management. Failure to respond within the stipulated time will result in all the Anglo operations being stopped,” said the structures leaders.
