The police recently reported that they are investigating cases of car hijacking which are on the increase. In the past two months they reported that four vehicles worth R694, 500 were hijacked in different parts of KwaGuqa.

As recently as on Monday, March 12 a 37 year-old man reported that his white VW Golf GTI with registration JHD 347 MP valued at R520 000 was hijacked at about 19:55.

The complainant told the police that he was parking his vehicle when he was approached by four suspects, one armed with a firearm. He was then assaulted and they demanded the vehicle keys. They forced him to the back seat and drove with him and on the way they removed the tracker unit and dropped him at Balmoral then drove away with his vehicle.

The police have also noted that older vehicles are also targeted by the hijackers. It was reported that as from January this year a number of old model vehicles have been stolen as well.

The four suspects have not been arrested and police are investigating a case of hijacking.
