
Violent protests claimed the life of a 20-year old woman in Clewer.
A mother of a four year old boy, Ms Mapule Tolo, died when she tried to flee from an angry crowd.

An eyewitness, Mr Maria Pondo said she watched in horror as Tolo tried to jump onto a moving bus and lost her grip.

“It was chaos. The poor woman lost her grip and she landed underneath the bus. The bus’ wheels drove over her,” Pondo said.
Pondo said clashes between the residents of Clewer and Vosman erupted on Tuesday, May 8 because the two communities are fighting over job opportunities at Elandsfontein Mine in Clewer. Protestors started throwing stones at busses and five cars belonging to residents from Vosman.
Residents from Clewer do not want their neighbours from Vosman to work in Clewer.
Mr Zwelekhe Vilakazi, a community leader from Clewer said Vosman residents should look for work elsewhere.

Mrs Rose Mabena stood silently and watched as Vosman Police covered her daughter’s body.
