Most of the potholes on the R544 between eMalahleni and Ga-Nala are filled with tar.

The road was highlighted a few weeks ago when motorists lost one tyre and rim after the other on the stretch between Vandyksdrift and the old TNC Mine.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport is aware of the condition of the road between eMalahleni and Ga-Nala.

Mr David Nkambule, from the department said routine maintenance in a form of pothole patching and selective resealing on the poor sections of the road will be undertaken in the current financial year 2018/19. This will be carried out annually as required.


Potholes on the R544 are fixed.

“The road will be considered for rehabilitation after 2020/21 subject to availability of budget,” he added.

The R544 is a provincial road that stretches over 50km.
