The re-launch of the Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) was held recently and was attended by different stakeholders.
The re-launch was held at the King George Park and before that a march led by Emalahleni Executive Mayor Cllr Linah Malatjie, Cluster Commander General William Kekana, Bishop Joe Sandri, chairperson of the Moral Regeneration Movement Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa traditional leaders and traditional healers. The re-launch was held on Friday, May 11.
Emalahleni Moral Regeneration was first launched in 2008 by Father Mkhatshwa.
In his speech chairperson of the Moral Regeneration Movement Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa said it was important that the movement is re-launched. Father Mkhatshwa thanked the executive mayor Cllr Malatjie for her support and in making sure that the movement was re-launch. He said even when she was the Nkangala district mayor, she made sure that it was launched in the district.

“I will urge members of the community to work towards the goals of the movement and to make sure that morals are upheld while we are faced with a lot of challenges and problems. Collectively we can bring a lot of changes in our communities. I will also urge the interim committee to make sure that they have a progamme of action and include all the stakeholders in their programmes.”
Father Mkhatshwa also alluded to the fact that from the police, traditional leaders, traditional healers, political organisations, schools, non governmental organisations, churches, civil society all strengthen and build a solid relationship. He also said the programmes should be well coordinated.

“MRM should be taken as an answer to all our problems because it has good values and morals are important to us all. We need also to choose people we can trust so that there will be progress,” added Father Mkhatshwa.
Executive mayor said that former president Mandela called upon an urgent meeting in 1997 to discuss the state of societal fibre which led to the launch of the Moral Regeneration Movement and the subsequent adoption of the National Chapter of Positive Values in 1998.
Cllr Malatjie urged community members to always do the right things and help to fight corruption in its multifaceted forms both in public and the private sector.

“We cannot allow ourselves as a community of eMalahleni to be oppressed even further by crime, corruption, violence, abuse of children and women, looting of state resources including stealing of municipal services through non-payment of services and illegal connections of electricity and water supply, denying the rights of those who are loyal in paying for their municipal services through the theft of copper cables; this is unfair and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms by us all. Emalahleni city is the only asset we have and we should protect it for our future generation,” stated the mayor.
Mayor Malatjie also said that the source of moral decay can easily be traced to the loss of grip to the basics of the African culture, values, simple things like respect, greetings and caring, communal principles wherein your neighbour child is your child, the social economic challenges of your neighbour are your challenges as well.
“I wish to extend a special word of thanks to the entire civil society, led by non-governmental organisations and Sanco, thank you so much. We recognise that we cannot do it alone, strategic partnership with business community is a critical component of the Moral Regeneration Movement, because Moral Regeneration Movement is everybody’s business,” ended the mayor.
