“There is a visible trend for robberies after large sums of money were withdrawn. Please, do not withdraw large amounts.”
This warning came from Capt Eddie Hall, media spokesperson for the Witbank Police on Tuesday, May 29.
This follows after two more cases were reported where a large amount of money was withdrawn from the bank and shortly thereafter, the money was stolen.
The victims were not available for comment by time of going to print, but the first incident took place on Friday, May 25 when the victim withdrew a large amount and told the police that he went straight home.

He added that he parked his vehicle at his residence when a white Toyota Corolla Professional reversed and parked next to his vehicle. The victim said that the suspect from the Corolla pulled out a firearm while the passenger went to the victim’s friend and demanded the money. The suspects fled with them money as well as cell phones.
On May 26 another victim withdrew money at a bank in Klipfontein. Upon arrival at her residence, a silver Volkswagen Polo allegedly parked next to her, when two armed men came straight to her car.
The victim told police that they demanded the money withdrawn from the bank and they ran back to their car, leaving with her money.
Capt Hall went on by saying that it has been proven time and time again that so many residents of our city has fallen victim to this crime.
“People with large amounts of money are being targeted. The suspects will not hesitate to shoot, in order to obtain the money. The police are doing an urgent appeal on all residents to not withdraw such large amounts of money, rather make use of EFT payments or withdraw small amounts from an ATM. Do not under any circumstances withdraw a large amount.”
