Another day, another victim

The suspect fled in a white Toyota with an unknown registration number.

While the rest of eMalahleni is in Christmas spirit, thieves are keeping an even closer eye on victims withdrawing large amounts of money from the bank.

In recent articles, Capt Eddie Hall and Brig Sipho Mokwatlo from the Witbank Police Station have extended warnings to the public to not withdraw large amounts of money from the bank at once.

But on December 10 another victim withdrew money and was robbed of it shortly thereafter.

The victim was unavailable for comment but he told police that after the money was withdrawn, he drove to Market Street in the Central Business District (CBD).

He said that as he stopped his vehicle, there was an unknown male with a firearm that demanded his money.

The victim then gave the suspect money hidden underneath his steering wheel but still the suspect demanded the money.

The victim said that the suspect shot two shots and the victim handed the money he just withdrew, over.

The suspect fled in a white Toyota with an unknown registration number.

In a previous article, Brig Sipho Mokwatlo said: “We urge the community to not withdraw these large amounts. But if they do not have another choice, they must come to the Community Service Centre at the police station. They must ask for a vehicle to escort them to the bank and where the money is taken afterwards. We can not escort them through town to do their shopping but we can assist by taking them to their house or business.”

No arrests have been made and the victim could not be reached for comment by time of going to print.
