Criminals are getting the short end of the stick as Kriel SAPS is hard at work keeping criminals at bay.
From January 14 to 20 police arrested 21 suspects for various crimes, fraud, shoplifting, public violence, possession and dealing of dagga, assault grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of firearm and possession of counter fake goods.
Kriel SAPS is very proud of these arrests and highlighted a few:
On January 18 at about 08:30 Constables Joseph Msiza and Bongani Mbuli arrested a male for allegedly dealing in dagga.
On February 19 Constables Bongani Mbuli, Joseph Msiza, Innocent Mathibela and Winnie Malanga were patrolling around Kriel sectors when they became suspicious of a man who appeared to be very nervous.
When they arrested him, they allegedly found dagga and counter fake goods on him. He appeared in Kriel Magistrate Court on January 22.
Despite all the good arrests, business robbery is still a huge headache.
On January 5 Edwill Tuck Shop was robbed at about 12:00.
“Three males entered the tuck shop pretended to buy goods, grabbed his hands and tied him up. He was told to sit down while looking down the barrel of a gun,” police spokesperson Const Angel Makubu said.
The suspects took cash, cigarettes and airtime.
They escaped in a white Toyota Quantum with a sticker written ‘Long distance taxi rank’ and on the left passenger door written the word ‘Maseko’.
On January 7 at about 20:30 a business robbery occurred at Madiba thubs.
This time it was two suspects who entered the tuck shop.
They also pretended to be buying something.
According to the police report one suspect grabbed the man working in the tuck shop and pushed him to the ground.
One suspect pointed a firearm at him and also assaulted him.
The suspects fled, but one is known to police and they are positive that they will make an arrest soon.
Twelve days later Impungushe Thubs was robbed.
“The tuck shop owner said he was outside the tuck shop when he noticed two males walking towards him from a grey Polo. They looked suspicious. As he tried to run away, they pointed him with a firearm. They took money from him and told him to ask his brother to open a shop then they also took all their phones, cigarettes, airtime and they fired one shot and escape with the same Polo,” Const Makubu summed up the robbery.
On January 20 at around 16:00 Mazambane Shop was the next prey.
As the owner was busy locking the door, five suspects entered the shop and pointed a firearm to his head.
They allegedly demand cash.
But they were not satisfied with the money only and also took the camera system and cell phones.
Const Makubu said a shot was allegedly fired, but one of the suspects picked the cartridge up.
She asked that anyone with information about the recent spike in tuck shop robberies come forward.
