The man who was arrested last year in connection with the murder of his girlfriend has had the charge against him withdrawn.
Originally, the charge sheet relating to Mr Joseph Mnguni’s arrest stated that he stood accused of the murder of Ms Dolly Pearl Mokoena in September 2018. Her moderately decomposed body was found on her bed wrapped in blankets.
On February 22, the public prosecutor chose to withdraw the charge of murder against Mr Mnguni, partially due to new evidence that had come to light during the post-mortem examination of the deceased.
Despite the deceased’s family’s eye-witness testimony that the deceased’s eye and tongue were removed, upon the court receiving the post mortem it was noted that neither the deceased’s tongue nor one of her eyes had been removed – instead blood-stained cotton wool was found in her mouth cavity, as well as bruises to her tongue having been noted.
The post mortem further noted a deep bruise on the left temporal region above the left eye and a small left-sided acute subdural haemorrhage.
The post mortem report stated: “death as a result of unnatural causes such as strangulation and/or other form of obstruction of the upper airway such as that caused by stuffing tissue paper in the mouth cavity, cannot be excluded.”
Dolly’s family is still in mourning after her untimely passing.
