Mandela month celebrated at public school
The Department donated clothing and filing cabinets for the school library, 50 office chairs and office tables as well as cleaning materials.
The Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises, Phumulo Masualle, Eskom Foundation and SAFCOL officially handed over infrastructure and donated school equipment to two Mpumalanga schools, as part of Mandela month commemorations.
This took place on July 25.
The first part of the event took place at Duvha Primary School where more than 1 000 learners celebrated the handover of the school hall, an ablution block as well as a new learning facility for Grade R learners built by Eskom Development Foundation.
“We are pleased to be with learners today, which is also a day to celebrate a milestone in an effort to better the lives of our people”, said Deputy Minister Masualle.
He also mentioned that he was aware of all the challenges in the school, and hoped that the learners would do better in the improved school hall.
He also pleaded with the learners to inform their parents to continue paying for their electricity bill so that Eskom can continue to assist more needy schools.
The Eskom Foundation’s emphasis is on programmes that contribute to social and economic development, which is aligned with government’s focus on poverty alleviation, job creation and skills development.
Activities for the day included a plaque unveiling and officially handing over the school hall and learning facility for Grade R learners and planting of the trees by the Deputy Minister Phumulo Masualle, Mr Ramonotsi and the Mayor of Emalahleni, Ms Linah Malatjie.
The Department of Public Enterprises as part of the second activity proceeded to Mkhulu Combined School where SAFCOL (South African Forestry Company Limited) donated 100 pairs of school shoes to needy learners.

As part of their 67 minutes, officials from the Department, Eskom and SAFCOL cleaned classrooms and toilets, packed office desks and chairs with many happy learners after receiving their brand new shoes.
Eskom, through the Eskom Development Foundation, is committed to improving the lives of the communities within which it operates beyond supplying electricity.
This was demonstrated by the generous donation that Eskom was a part of.
With over 800 learners, Duvha Primary School was built two years ago and needed these facilities to offer better quality education to learners.
“The foundation’s emphasis is on programmes that contribute to social and economic development, which is aligned with government’s focus on poverty alleviation, job creation and skills development. We thus are extremely happy that this Mandela Month, together with Eskom, we’ve been able to better the environment in which these students learn. This is the future that Nelson Mandela wished for”, added Deputy Minister Masualle.
The Eskom Development Foundation is tasked with implementing Eskom’s CSI strategy and operates as a not-for-profit company in sectors including enterprise development, education, environment, agriculture, healthcare, social and community development.
