House robberies become new trend in Model Park

House robbery suspects get away with a TV, laptops, and a sound bar.

A family lost goods worth thousands during a house robbery that took place on George Street. The robbery occurred on September 4 at about 04:00.

According to police, the complainant had gotten up to turn on the geyser. She noticed two men inside the house as she walked down the stairs.
One of them was attempting to take out the TV, while the other was standing at the stairs, telling her not to run away and telling the other suspect to bring a gun.

She then ran to the homeowner’s room, and everyone in the house woke up. When they went to check, the suspects had already left.

They stole a TV, two laptops and a sound bar. No suspects have been arrested, as they were not identified.

Warrant Officer David Ratau from the Witbank Police Station said that criminals are now targeting the area.

“We urge people not to try to fight back because some of these suspects are armed and might harm them. We urge the community to engage the CPF units in their neighbourhood, have cell phone numbers of their neighbours, and have whistles. Whistles will help them, as they will alert neighbours that you are in trouble, and they can also scare the robbers,” added Ratau.
