If you get caught travelling with alcohol you are in deep trouble.
Gauteng community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko warned that anyone selling or transporting alcohol will be arrested.
Mazibuko and her counterpart in Mpumalanga MEC Gabisile Tshabalala sent out a stern warning to motorists during their site visit to the roadblock at Balmoral on Friday, April 17.
“Transporting alcohol is non-negotiable. We will arrest you, the regulations are clear,” Mazibuko said.
Tshabalala said no mercy will be shown to motorists travelling without the necessary permits.
The roadblock sees the deployment from both provinces to make sure no-one illegally crosses from one province to the other.
Five cars from Mpumalanga and four from Gauteng had to turn back because their permits do not allow them to travel between Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Tshabalala said people travelling to attend a funeral must have the necessary documents in place to avoid disappointment. She also reminded motorists that only 50 people are allowed to attend a funeral.
Two people were arrested on Friday for driving unroadworthy cars and without valid driving licenses. The vehicles were impounded.
Cllr Linah Malatjie, executive mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality was also on scene handing out flyers on how to combat the deadly COVID-19 disease.
“Most motorists adhere to the lockdown regulations and the Disaster Management Act,” she said.
She encouraged residents of eMalahleni to stay calm and adhere to the regulations and asked that the community pray for the different role-players manning the roadblocks.
