Carjackings have been happening more often since lockdown levels have been lifted.
On Tuesday, August 11 a man was driving from Vosman when at a robot in Diederichs Street four guys approached the vehicle.
The four suspects surrounded the vehicle and took out their firearms and pointed the victim demanding him to give them money.
The suspects then took it upon themselves and searched the victim after taking cash and his phone they then instructed the victim to lie down.
They tied the victims’ hands with cable ties.
They then shoved the victim back into his vehicle and drove him to bushes near the Kromdraai Road.
The four suspects took the victims car, cash, cellphone, groceries and clothes.
Other common carjacking ruses include:
*Bumping the victim’s vehicle from behind, and taking the car when the victim gets out of the vehicle to assess damage and exchange information
*Staging a fake car accident, sometimes with injuries, and stealing the vehicle of a person who stops to assist
*Flashing lights or waving to get the victim’s attention, indicating that there is a problem with the victim’s car, and then taking the car once the victim pulls over.
*Following a victim home, blocking the victim’s car in a driveway or in front of a gate.
Please be safe and be aware of your surroundings.
