Road still closed after CIT heist earlier

The scene of the cash-in-transit heist is cordoned off.

Police are still on the scene of the cash-in-transit robbery that happened earlier.

The road from the Sasol garage on the corner of OR Tambo- and Gordon Road up to the Old Middelburg Road is closed.

It is anticipated that it will take a few hours before the road is reopened.

Two people were injured during the robbery.

Mr Kobus Smit was hit over the head and a policeman was also injured.

His injuries are unknown at this stage.

One of the robbers took Smit’s lighter to set the vehicle they used to bump the cash van with, alight.

He was very traumatised and treated on the scene by ER24.
