Missing 69-year old pensioner found safe

The South African Community Crime Watch released a missing person flyer to social media and other platform groups and almost immediately tips from the public came in on sightings of the pensioner

Samuel Mathews Mahlangu was last seen on August 21 when he was transported by ambulance to Witbank General Hospital.

At the hospital a file was opened for him and he was allegedly told to wait on the waiting room for the doctor.

He disappeared from the hospital before the doctors could attend to him.

Samuel suffers from dementia and had presumably wandered off from the hospital.

The South African Community Crime Watch released a missing person flyer to social media and other platform groups and almost immediately tips from the public came in on sightings of the pensioner.

Nthombifuthi Mbaye, his niece was contacted on a positive sighting that Mahlangu was walking on Main road close to Pap and Vleis.

She notified Maureen Scheepers from the missing persons unit and drove out to the reported area where Mahlangu was indeed found alive and well after 10 days on the streets.

“We would like to thank the community for sharing the flyer and to everyone that made contact with sightings. This is what a community can achieve if we all stay vigilant and work together,” said Scheepers.
