As the numbers of hijacking cases increase by the day, the past week more hijackings were reported to the local police station

As hijackers are evolving with the times, finding new methods and techniques while becoming more brazen in their attempts, the sad reality remains that hijackings are part of the everyday life in eMalahleni.

As the numbers of hijacking cases increase by the day, the past week more hijackings were reported to the local police station.

What is concerning about these incidents is that in all of them there are three suspects, all armed, like the incident that occurred in the Central Business District (CBD), Allenby Street on August 21.

It is alleged that the victim parked his vehicle next to the road when three armed men suddenly appeared and threaten him with firearms while demanding the victim’s white Isuzu bakkie.

He gave the keys over and the suspects fled the scene with his vehicle.

In another incident in the CBD on August 23, another road user fell victim of three armed suspects that approached him in Jellicoe Street.

It is alleged that the suspects overpowered the driver as he was dropping off his friend, they demanded both the driver and friend to go sit in the back of the vehicle and started driving off.

It is believed that after driving around for a while the suspects dropped the victims at an unknown location near Clewer.

On August 24 the same amount of armed suspects allegedly jumped out of a blue Toyota Avanza that was busy blocking the road and succeeded in hijacking a white Toyota Corolla.

It is believed that the armed suspects also drove off with the owner of the vehicle before dropping him off near Kamgewane.

No arrests have been made but the cases are being investigated by Witbank Police Station.
