
Two alleged robbers hardly had time to marvel over their loot before they were arrested. The two suspects appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on October 21, following their arrest by police on Tuesday, October 20 at Old Coronation. The suspects aged 26 and 24 years were arrested hours after they committed a business robbery at Tops Spar Diederich Street in the Central Business District (CBD). According to information the two suspects entered the business at 14:30 and held staff and community members at gunpoint and robbed an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones and liquor from the premises. Two and a half hours later Witbank Police members followed up information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects and conducted a search and seizure operations at the suspects’ houses in Old Coronation. The police confiscated two firearms with ammunition as well as cash, liquor and cell phones that were robbed from the scene. The Station Commander Brigadier Sifiso Cele has commended the members for their swift response in apprehending the armed robbers. He said the arrest of the suspects is part of the police’s efforts to put an end to criminal activities as well as bring to justice all the suspects who are terrorising businesses. Police cannot rule out possibilities of linking the suspects to other reported cases of robbery in and around eMalahleni.
