Five suspects aged between 29 and 34 years old were expected to appear before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, October 27, facing a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and business robbery.
Their arrest came after a complainant opened a case of robbery at which he indicated that he was officially on duty with his colleague at Ferrobank Schonland Drive, when he saw a white Toyota Hilux Legend 45 with six unknown occupants approaching.
The occupants alighted from the vehicle armed with a firearm and pointed it at them.
The suspects robbed cell phones from the victims and fired a shot in the process.
One suspect took one victim to an enlightened area where he demanded the victim to remove the lights.
The victims were both severely assaulted and tied with cable ties.
The suspects then took a lighting plant machine and drove off.
The matter was reported to the Vosman Crime Prevention members and their swift reaction led to the arrest of the five suspects.
Further investigation has led to the discovery of the firearm believed to have been used in the robbery as well as the stolen machine.
Meanwhile the Station Commander Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu has applauded the members for the good work which has led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the firearm as well as the stolen machine.
