South32 help with illegal dumping challenges in Emalahleni

South32 is helping in the fight against illegal dumping of rubbish.

Challenges with regard to illegal dumping and waste collection have been a serious discussion topic in eMalahleni.

On Wednesday, November 4 South32’s South Africa Energy Coal (SAEC) business handed over a 10-ton skip loader truck and bins to the Emalahleni Local Municipality (ELM).

This donation will help the municipality to address the ongoing challenges of illegal dumping of rubbish that can be harmful to resident’s health.

The donation comes following discussions with the ELM where waste and environmental management was identified as a problem in the area, particularly for the communities in Klarinet and Siyanqoba townships.

Kgabi Masia, President of SAEC, said: “SAEC strives for a safe and clean working environment for all its employees, but equally important is helping with the upkeep of the communities surrounding our operations. It is with this in mind that we saw a need to support the municipality with this vehicle and the bins because they are critical to the process of waste collection and management.

“As a company, we continue to support local communities in areas of need and develop projects to deliver positive outcomes for future generations. The stronger our communities, the better we can work together, thrive together and create a positive legacy together.”
