Legend of Black Aces laid to rest
The late former Witbank Black Aces player Johannes ‘Lexington’ Buhali was laid to rest recently.
A legend of Witbank Black Aces, Johannes ‘Lexington’ Buhali was laid to rest recently. His soccer career started as a striker at Eastern Rangers under the late Matlapeng and played for Witbank Black Aces. He was nicknamed ‘Bomber Mzayoni’. He was very influential in the team winning many games for them playing against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Furthermore, he served as a secretary of the team after the passing away of Simon Mthimunye; he also served as a secretary at Witbank Black Spurs. Buhali started school at Wessel Missionary School and furthered his education at Elukhanyisweni Secondary School and worked at Sondrio Construction as a clerk and later moved to Transaloys.
He took part in the formation of the Witbank People’s Party that defeated the Urban Bantu Council in the local government local elections. The party was instrumental in the eradication of the payment of permits and better housing for the people as well as better service delivery. He retired from working as a general relationship coordinator in construction in 2014. After his soccer retirement, he joined both Witbank and Greenside Golf Clubs, and he was one of the founding members of Sparte Golf Club that encouraged and recruited many golfers countrywide. He won various club championships as well as leagues and retired in 2014. Former goalkeeper of Witbank Black Aces Cyprian ‘Mahala’ Maimane said he learned a lot of things from Buhali, some of which was love and respect.
“We have lost a very humble human being he showed his love for his wife, his family, and the team. He had a special way of encouraging his teammates. He was one of the pillars of the team and respected everyone on the team.
