Next of kin located after police reaches out for info

The deceased man was kept at Witbank government mortuary and the police have been trying to locate his family, friends and relatives particularly around Kendal farms.

 

 

 

The police were looking for the family, friends or relatives of a man who was killed by a bakkie near Kendal/Balmoral off-ramp on the N12 freeway last year.

After a statement sent out by Phola SAPS a family from Phola Location at Vezi Section led by the community policing forum secretary Ms Gabisile Ndakisa went to the police station.

They said that their child went missing on December 16 last year. The clothes they described matched those of the unknown man laying in the Witbank government mortuary.

The family said that the person mentioned in the statement was matching the description of their child when they last saw him.

The accident happened on December 16 at approximately 14:30. According to information, a 46 –year-old Mozambique national was travelling on the highway in his bakkie and suddenly noticed two men walking on the yellow line of the highway.

“While approaching, he was surprised by the bang sound after passing them and when driving further and checking his mirrors, he noticed that he might have hit one of them of which he discovered after a few minutes that he accidentally hit both,” said Sgt Thabang Ntuli Phola SAPS spokesperson.

One man survived and was taken to Witbank Hospital but disappeared after his release at the hospital. The other man was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
