Investigation into alleged neglect at old age home

Her mother, who was in the frail care unit at the old age home, was allegedly tied to a chair with a sheet.

SAVF Immergroen Old Age Home has launched an investigation after a 93-year-old woman was allegedly forced to sit on a chair while screaming with pain.

She had a huge bedsore on her lower back causing discomfort whenever she sat.

According to Ms Koekie Steynberg’s daughter, Ms Sophie du Preez, she received information on Thursday, March 25 that her mother, who was in the frail care unit at the old age home, was tied to a chair with a sheet.

When she arrived at the old age home, she found her mother afraid and curled up in a foetus position on her bed. She said that her mother had since been transferred to another old age home and has shown much improvement.
