Survivor South Africa season 8 has kicked off and it did not disappoint at all.
On Thursday, June 3 the first episode premiered on M-Net and had all viewers’ eyes glued to the screen.
Francois Chapman, also known as Chappies on the show and Santoni Engelbrecht is in the same tribe. These two old locals of eMalahleni are in tribe Vuna (Orange) and will battle it out against team Zamba (Green).
The game started with a bang, both tribes were busy setting up camp for their first night on Immunity Island. We saw Chappies struggling to create a fire for his tribe the first night after both camps were without flints.
After the first rainy night of sleep, the first challenge was given; one member of each tribe had to battle it out for a ‘fire-making kit’. The challenge was to create a fire big enough to burn a small rope; the first person to burn through the rope wins the kit.
After a night of struggling to create a fire, Vuna sent Chappies to redeem himself and Zamba sent Jason Brookstein.
Both got smoke early on, but Chappies got his fire blazing and growing to claim victory. Chappies returned to camp with the first victory going to team Vuna and inspired them for the Immunity challenge.
At the Immunity challenge, team Vuna was off to a slow start and had to catch up in a challenge that involves strength, endurance and quick thinking. When team Vuna finally caught up to team Zamba at the last stage of the challenge, a puzzle. Team Vuna was too quick and solved it before the leading team Zamba, sending them to tribal council.
After a loss to Chappies in the fire-making challenge and his tough outing in the Immunity challenge team, Zamba cast their vote sending Jason home.
Tune in Thursday, June 10 for the next episode of Survivor South Africa: Immunity Island in support of our two local contenders.
