Street light stripped bare

The street light has been stripped little by little until most parts are missing and it can’t serve its purpose to give light to the residents.

While Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe was addressing during the Crime Imbizo and Community Engagement, a street light near the stadium has been stripped bare.

MEC Shongwe was addressing on Saturday, June 12 at the Sy Mthimunye Stadium, a few metres away stands the bare stripped Apollo street light.

Community members staying near the stripped light says they are concerned because they will live in darkness and it makes them vulnerable to criminals.

The street light has been stripped little by little until most parts are missing and it can’t serve its purpose to give light to the residents.

“How does one explain this, if we destroy resources that is suppose to help us just by selling the parts to be recycled. People passing the open soccer field are going to be in danger; criminals will just wait for them in the dark now. Even the residents staying nearby are going to be in danger because of the darkness now,” said a resident in the area.
