Thank you Sifiso, you are a superhero

The suspects appeared in court on June 26 for possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, fraud, and reckless and negligent driving

The man who chased robbers into a police ambush on the N12 is dubbed a hero by the woman whose phone was stolen on that day.

“I am a teacher and I was standing in the queue at Witbank High School in Beatty Street for the vaccination when my phone was stolen,” Ms Annie Lewis explained.

She said she had her phone in her hand on June 25 as the queue behind her just got longer and longer.

“I was worried that if I put my phone in my pocket it would be stolen. So I held it tight against my chest,” Lewis said.

What she did not know is that the alleged thief was standing right behind her in the queue.

“With an ever so slightly hand he took my phone out of my hand, climbed into a car that pulled in next to us and drove away,” Lewis said.

Mr Sifiso Zimo who saw the whole incident decided there and then not to let the alleged robbers get away and chased them all the way to Delmas where police were waiting for them at a roadblock.

Zello-users could follow the whole chase as Zimo gave a real-life account as they made their way onto the highway.

Just before the R50 Bapsfontein off-ramp, police stopped the car.

The three suspects jumped out of the car, and they made a dash for it in different directions.

One of the suspects started shooting at the police before disappearing into a maize field.

Two of the suspects were arrested near Da Rocha on the R50.

Police found a suspected stolen Apple phone and bank cards in their possession.

“Cases of possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, fraud, and reckless and negligent driving were opened against the suspects,” police spokesperson from Delmas, Capt Carla Hartley said.

The suspects appeared in court on June 26 for possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, fraud, and reckless and negligent driving.
