N4 spiking habbit recently moved to the N12

Phola Police Station is seeking the community’s assistance in finding four suspects for an alleged robbery.

On Tuesday, August 31, a couple was driving on the N12 traveling towards Ogies.

After passing Emalahleni West off-ramp, they drove over spikes that were allegedly deliberately placed on the road.

When they stopped to further investigate, they were approached by four unknown men who pointed them with a firearm and took their cell phones, and left.

They took cell phones including a P30 Huawei Pro, IPhone S6, Samsung J4 core, Nokia, and Huawei.

The estimated value of all the stolen items including the damage of the vehicle is estimated to be R60 000.

A case docket for armed robbery has been opened and police are investigating the matter.

No one has been arrested so far.

“We were taken by surprise by this case as we normally hear that it occurs on the N4. This case is the second one reported on the N12 so far,” said Lt Col Nape Matlala.

“We need assistance to accumulate intelligence to make an arrest. Motorists who use the N12 must be aware of this problem. We also advise motorists to drive carefully at night, and try to not drive over objects,” he added.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects is requested to contact Phola SAPS on 013 643 8601/2.
