Homeowner has to prove over and over that he is not in arrears with his municipal account

Previous homeowner now over R44 000 in arrears because the municipality is still billing him.

A local homeowner is furious because the municipality keeps on cutting electricity to his house, even though his account is paid up to date.

Mr Harold Outram said the electricity to the house he bought at an auction, five years ago, has been cut for the past five months.

Not because he is at fault, but because the municipality is still billing the previous owner.

“Mr Jansen van Vuuren is the previous owner and the municipality is still billing him for the same house. This resulted in Mr Jansen van Vuuren being in arrears with R44 919.45,” Outram said.

All the municipality has to do is take Mr Jansen van Vuuren off the municipal account and the problem would be solved.

“Someone is not doing their job and I have to contact the municipality every month and proof that my account is paid up to date. This is ridiculous,” Outram said.

By the time of going to press, no feedback was received from the municipality.
