Mayor calls for the community to volunteer their services for Mandela Month
On July 18, Executive Mayor Clr Conny Nkalitshana will celebrate the Nelson Mandela Day with Ogies, Phola and surrounding community.
One of the goals of Nelson Mandela’s Day is active citizenship.
“I call on the residents of Emalahleni Local Municipality to find areas wherein they can volunteer their services on Mandela’s birthday on July 18 and beyond,” said Executive Mayor Clr Conny Nkalitshana.
She said there is no better way to celebrate this internationally acclaimed icon than upholding the values he fought and stood for.
And one of these values is active citizenship, which means as members of the community we have a collective responsibility to lend a hand to make Emalahleni a better place to be.
- Play your part to keep Emalahleni clean and safe.
- Play your part to protect the most vulnerable in our community, namely children, people with disability, senior citizens, and the have-nots.
- Play your part to fight gender-based violence, femicide, human trafficking, drugs, and substance abuse.
- Play your part to reduce levels of unemployment and poverty through the creation of more jobs and promoting food and nutrition programmes.
- Play your part to strengthen the sustainable delivery of basic services (water, sanitation, and shelter.
Members of the community in all 34 wards are encouraged to initiate ward-based activities to celebrate the visionary leadership of Nelson Mandela on Active Citizenship.
