Emalahleni Local Municipality’s  municipal finance assistant manager was arrested for alleged corruption.

The Hawks Middelburg-based Serious Corruption Investigation arrested the man and he appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, December 7.

He was released on R5 000 bail. It is alleged that during June last year, the accused was involved in leaking a section 106 report that was compiled by a forensic company for the maladministration investigation at the municipality.

“An individual at the forensic company was allegedly paid R8 700 by a municipal official to access the report,” said Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, spokesperson for the Hawks.

The investigation continues.

The local municipality confirmed the arrest and its spokesperson, Mr Lebo Mofokeng said the matter is under investigation.
