Witbank Hospital revamps paediatric waiting room
The newly-transformed room aims to improve healthcare experiences for vulnerable children.
A child-friendly and colourful Dream Room was officially opened at Witbank Provincial Hospital in collaboration with the Hollywood Foundation and Dream Room.
The Dream Room will play a pivotal role in the children’s ward as it will aid the recovery of the young patients and uplift their spirit as it is filled with toys, games, colouring books, and play stations.
Hollywood Foundation’s public relations officer, Vuyisile Ngobese, mentioned that the idea behind the Dream Room was to redefine healthcare experiences for vulnerable children.

“Hospitalisation can disrupt children’s lives, stirring emotions of anxiety, fear, and pain, recognising the vital role of play in a child’s healing journey,” Vuyisile shared.
On Thursday, February 15, Dr Taime Nangwu, a pediatrician at the hospital, shared that playtime therapy positively impacts children’s lives as it decreases anxiety and the fear of hospitals.

“This initiative will keep the children occupied when they wait for doctors. Playtime is a part of disease treatment, the World Health Organisation (WHO) introduced play therapy as part of the full treatment of a child,” Dr Taime ended.
