A man was fatally shot earlier this week during a protest.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 19, when the victim was shot allegedly by a driver of a bakkie who allegedly forced his way through a barricaded road during a community protest.
The injured man was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. He sadly succumbed due to his injuries.
A man, working for a contracting company, contracted to provide services at Thungela’s Emalahleni Water Reclamation Plant was arrested shortly afterward.
Captain Eddie Hall, a spokesperson from the Witbank Police Station said, “We do not know what led to the circumstance but the suspect has been arrested, and charged with murder.”
“Thungela and the contracting company, the Proxa Group, extend their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to engage with the Matimba community,” Hulisani Rasivhaga said.
