Seven suspects remanded in custody after alleged murder, kidnapping, and assault

The seven suspect’s who allegedly murdered, kidnapped, and assaulted two men are expected to appear on court Friday, October 25.

The seven suspects accused of murdering, kidnapping, and assaulting two men for breaking into a local tavern appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court.

On Wednesday, October 16, the suspects were all remanded in custody for further investigation.
The case stems from the brutal attack that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man and left a 29-year-old severely injured from an alleged launched manhunt for the burglars on October 11 and 12.

The younger victim was found and taken to the tavern, where he was allegedly assaulted with various objects and boiling water poured over his body. He survived the ordeal.

Tragically, the second victim was also found and allegedly subjected to some torture.

He was released after his child intervened but died due to his injuries.
The police condemned the incident, emphasising concerns about vigilantism.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, stated, “This incident highlights our concerns about vigilantism and the importance of letting law enforcement handle criminal situations.”

The suspect’s next court date is scheduled for Friday, October 25.
